Proceeds from 30 Under 30 Presented to TLC
On Tuesday, September 21, 2010, Jason McAninch, President of J-TEK, presented TLC, also known as Temporary Living Center based out of Olathe, Kansas the winning proceeds from the KC Top 30 Under 30 event that took place September 10th at LUNA in Kansas City, Missouri.
McAninch was the first-prize winner of the 30 Under 30 event, so the evenings proceeds went to his charity of choice, which was TLC.
When asked why McAninch chose TLC as his charity, he said “They do a lot of good for our community that I think goes unnoticed to many, because of the stereotype that people have towards Johnson County families. It seems like everyone has this notion that everyone in Johnson County is extremely wealthy and that they never have struggles or are faced with horrifying circumstances in life, which is unfortunately not the case.”
McAninch was able to tour the facility and meet with several children and young adults that are being helped by this great organization. The organization gives children a second chance when they otherwise would not have one. “Kids can’t choose who their parents are or who raises them, and these kids are abused, neglected in ways that most of us can’t even imagine” McAninch said.
TLC focuses it’s efforts on helping children who are homeless or in crisis in the Johnson County area by providing emergency shelter for abused and neglected children from infancy until age 18. They also have programs in place that allow for youth that are age 18 or higher to have opportunities to learn how to survive and thrive in the real world by offering them an apartment-like living space, where they have to learn how to get an education, apply for employment, open and maintain a checking and savings account, cook, clean and all the other aspects that go along with adulthood, so they can become productive members of society.
“It’s a cause I am happy to support – there shouldn’t be any children that are homeless, abused or neglected, and TLC is really making a difference in helping the children that are unfortunate to be in that situation” McAninch said.
